Summary of Job Duties: The Speech Language Pathologist evaluates children from birth through adolescence in a multidisciplinary team setting. The evaluation may be independent, with a psychological examiner or with a multidisciplinary team. The evaluation is conducted to make initial and ongoing diagnoses, provide second opinions regarding diagnosis, and to provide clinical observations regarding the presence or absence of a developmental disability. This position is governed by speech/language certification regulations, state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.
Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology required.

  • Must have a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASLHA).

  • Experience with Microsoft Office.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years of experience working with a pediatric population.

  • EPIC experience.


Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Provide speech/language and other developmentally related evaluations or screenings using a variety of standardized instruments and behavioral observations to determine appropriate diagnoses and make recommendations for treatment.

  • Conduct chart review, interview of caregivers, consultation with current or previous service providers; as well as clinical observation in structured and unstructured settings in order to facilitate clinical decision making.

  • Conduct pure-tone audiometric screenings and/or distortion product otoacoustic emission screenings for the purpose of identifying possible hearing loss and to make appropriate referrals when necessary.

  • Consult with other disciplines (i.e., physicians: nurses, clinical social workers, .psychological examiners, psychologists) to discuss evaluation findings and formulate diagnosis and appropriate recommendations for treatment (when applicable).

  • As appropriate, compile resource material for families including handouts, website addresses, names and numbers of local providers, and referrals to community agencies.

  • Participate in parent and professional staffing to share evaluation results.

  • Listen and respond empathetically to the parent's concerns or questions. Offer options as appropriate.

  • Document services provided by billing on the date the patient received the evaluation.

  • Complete comprehensive evaluation report in a timely manner in accordance with current DDC policy, with appropriate impressions and recommendations for treatment:   

  • Serve as a clinical resource to the other disciplines.

  • Select and prioritize services based on individual patient needs and referral concerns.

  • Provide ongoing consultation to families upon request.

  • Serve as a clinical supervisor for student clinicians.

  • Participate in ongoing continuing education to maintain clinical competence and professional certification/licensure.

  • Participate in work-related task forces to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the clinic and to promote patient safety.

  • May perform other duties as assigned.
