Description

Join one of the nation's most comprehensive academic medical centers, UChicago Medicine, as a Benefits Consultant for the Human Resources department.

 

This role will manage benefit initiatives including open enrollment, new benefit implementations, and company-wide communications. The consultant will contribute to developing ongoing strategies to address benefit competitiveness and emerging trends - generating solutions to address problems proactively. Responsible for acquiring resources and coordinating with team members, cross-functional departments, and third-party vendors or consultants. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.  Provides training to management, HR, and employees on various benefit programs. Performs other administrative duties as assigned.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Partners with Director, Benefits Planning to implement short- and long-term benefit strategies to support the business plans, including the UCMC, CHHD, Care Network, and other affiliates.
  • Supports development of benefit program communications for the organization
  • Research benefit program data and practices, gather input from Shared Services Total Rewards team, survey sources regarding benefit trends, and recommends efficiencies and process improvements
  • Actively participates in development of communications strategies that convey the rationale for various programs and the benefit they are intended to deliver to participants. May deliver employee presentations and train-the-trainer
  • Develops, reviews and updates administration policies and procedures. Understands the impact of legislative changes on Health & Welfare, Health Management, and Retirement plans 
  • Works collaboratively with the Shared Services team to refine and enhance benefit practices and administration to not only ensure flawless execution of the annual and standard benefit processes but also strengthen and streamline business processes
  • Identifies industry trends for activity relating to market competitiveness and program design
  • Assists in developing processes for measuring achievement of benefit related goals

Qualifications 

  • Bachelors degree in related discipline, preferably HR or business
  • Prefer Master's degree in Human Resources or related field
  • Minimum 7 years HR experience, with at least 5 years of benefits (health & welfare and retirement) experience, including plan design, program implementation, program administration and communications
  • Thorough working knowledge of benefit concepts, theories, and federal/state employee benefit regulations
  • Competence in managing multiple projects simultaneously with a strong results/goal orientation
  • Demonstrated ability to convert business needs into transformational and implementable recommendations
  • Sense of urgency, logic and drive to solve difficult problems with effective solutions
  • Strong interpersonal, influence, and oral and written communication skills
  • Skill in examining operations and procedures, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures
  • Ability to make decisions and operate independently with respect to complex issues and business requirements with a high degree of exposure
  • Ability to thrive in a changing environment and deal with ambiguity
  • Conflict management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to attain results in a team environment with proven project management and organizational skills
  • Outstanding attention to analytic, verbal and written detail
  • Strong analytical abilities including expert aptitude for Microsoft Excel, Project, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Experience with Human Resource Systems application reporting and communicating change needs to an HRIS team
  • Excellent personal, interpersonal communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work closely with others as part of a team while being able to take full responsibility for a task
  • Ability to act in a professional manner and use appropriate judgment on sensitive, confidential issues
