LIS Administrator Job Description

This is not a Remote position

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Manager, follows all established Lab and 

      Union Health policies and procedures.

  2. This person is not required to be always on-site, but must be available to provide consultation

       either on-site, by telephone, or electronically.

  3. Responsible for troubleshooting, systems upgrade and regulatory compliance within both the

      clinical and anatomic systems as well as the reference laboratory interfacing along with

      various other ancillary systems.

  4. Recognizes system failures and takes effective corrective action to resolve them.

  5. Assist with establishing policies, guidelines, metrics, and templates.

  6. Reviews LIS interface and monitors systems status, system errors, and system messages.

  7. Documents all specific maintenance performed for regulatory compliance.

  8. Ensures department processes comply with regulatory requirements and standards are

      followed and met.

  9. Responsible for the strategic development, management, and oversight of laboratory    

      applications and will manage the implementation, operation, and maintenance of such

      applications.  

10. Participate in projects oriented around the expanded use, the upgrade of, or further

      enhancement of existing or future applications.

11. Works collaboratively with the entire Laboratory team, IT leadership, IT dedicated Laboratory  

       positions, and with other hospital personnel, as needed, to drive Laboratory quality and

       efficiency by continuously improving technology. 

12. Serve as the Laboratory technical and operational liaison to the IT department.

13. Attends meetings necessary and directed.

14. Serves as the primary staff trainer for LIS and EHR and related software applications. 

15. Provide leadership and vision for technology strategy and tactical planning, including managing

      appropriate governance structures to address goals to foster innovation, prioritize initiatives, and

      manage current and future Laboratory systems that assure continued high-quality services are

      provided. 

16. Assist Laboratory Leadership team in driving key objectives by leveraging systems to increase

      productivity and profitability, workforce empowerment, process improvements, and increase

      utilization of data to understand, analyze and measure results allowing leaders to make more

      informed decisions.

17. Manages the day-to-day operations and support of laboratory applications.

18. Responsible for certain components of the life cycle of the laboratory software/service

      delivery, including process requirements, communication, change management, design,

      and testing.

19. Assists with capital and asset management oversight.

 

Education/Training/Experience

 

1. Bachelor's or Associate degree in clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an

    accredited institution.

2. ASCP, AMT or NCA certification or eligibility required.  

3. Bachelor's degree (or related/comparable work experience) in Information Science, Computer

    Science, Informatics, or clinically related field required

4. 3-5 years of prior LIS clinical applications experience or other healthcare IT applications and

    knowledge of healthcare environment and system configuration preferred.

5. Prior experience with Cerner PathNet and Millenium preferred but not required.

6. Extensive understanding of clinical operations and workflows within a healthcare system is

    desired.

7. Experience with organizing and leading projects of varying complexity and size.

8. Has strong ability to innovate, prioritize and problem solve in a fast-paced environment.

9. Should have a solid background in implementing and supporting Laboratory systems within a

    regulatory lab environment.
