Department Description

Design and Construction Management manages the design and construction of new and remodeled major capital projects, with an active project load of over $1.2 billion. Projects have multi-year horizons with phased execution requirements from inception to close-out. Total commitments for projects range from $1 million to $90 million with varying funding sources including federal and state. Contracting methods are diverse and defined in California State code for UC.


Job Summary

Under general supervision of the Project Coordination Manager and as part of a project management team initiates, coordinates, and directs complex administrative processes during multiple dynamic phases of campus projects. Serves as a liaison and resource to project managers, consultants, contractors, campus departments, and clients. Requires high initiative and knowledge of University, construction, and project management processes to ensure University interests are protected.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work occasional overtime including evenings and weekends as required to meet operational needs.
  • Personally responsible for following safety procedures/guidelines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/Experience:

  • Experience in project administration in the construction industry.
  • Experience in administering workflows and documentation specific to phased activities of a capital project.
  • Experience managing multiple complex calendars and scheduling, including large meetings with diverse client groups.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

  • Skill to define problems, develop methodologies for solving problems, perform analyses and summarize findings, and develop and implement recommendations.
  • Skills to meet customer/client expectations with an emphasis on quality, quantity and timeliness of work.
  • Skills to use a computer for word processing, spreadsheets, research, graphs and analysis, and communications.
  • Skills to use database management systems to maintain current data in a variety of configurations and to retrieve, analyze, and report information.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

  • Current knowledge of insurance requirements, conditions, and pronouncements affecting capital construction for public agencies.
  • Computer skills to learn new systems, adapt workflows, and streamline processes.
  • Skill to research, interpret and apply federal/state/university policies and regulations to meet department mission goals, and objectives.
  • Skills to assess potential exposure to University's legal obligations in contract administration process.
