Position Summary:
  Under the supervision of the Cardiovascular Innovation and Research Center (CIRC) Assistant Director and Faculty Director of the Core Lab Facility, the Core Lab Technician will perform repetitive tasks for the CIRC shared core laboratory, which includes routine aseptic technique testing and microscopy and other equipment safety orientation. This position will include purchasing and stocking of core research supplies, ensuring operation of liquid nitrogen tanks, incubators, water baths, and similar daily use equipment. Performs repetitive tasks including but not limited to: attending staff meetings; updating/distributing lab protocols, SOPs; preparing solutions; adhering to all experimental protocol and good laboratory practices; maintaining safety training and safe work procedures; lab maintenance including supply inventory, routine equipment maintenance, cleaning and organizing lab spaces and materials; and performing other duties as assigned. The Core Lab Technician must be able to work under supervision after working under close supervision during the initial assignment of tasks. Must be able to work as part of a team. Assist with CIRC events and administrative assignments. The UCI Edwards Lifesciences Foundation, Cardiovascular Innovation and Research Center (CIRC) is an academic-based research and training center housed within the Henry Samueli School of Engineering at the University of California, Irvine.   The expected pay range for this recruitment is $21.26 - $25.00 (Hourly Rate). The Full Salary Range for the salary grade this position is assigned to is $22.00 - $25.88 (Hourly Rate).

Required:  
  • Must have the ability to work under supervision and as part of a team. 
  • Knowledge of and ability to adhere to all experimental protocol and good laboratory practices. 
  • Knowledge of and ability to maintain safety training and safe work procedures. 
  • Skill and ability to judiciously communicate verbally and in writing. 
  • Solid knowledge of biology or chemistry at the community college level or above. 
  • Skill and ability to develop and maintain equitable working relationships with CIRC staff, faculty, students. 
  • Ability to learn to follow/update/distribute lab protocols and standard operating procedures. 
  • Ability to learn to prepare various solutions. 
  • Ability to learn to regularly conduct lab maintenance including supply inventory, repitive basic equipment maintenance, and cleaning and organizing lab spaces and materials.

 

Preferred:  
  • Ability to perform other duties as assigned. 
  • Interest to work in a biomedical research setting. 
  • Prior laboratory experience. 
  • Ability to work in an environment with frequent interruptions.
