Department Purpose
The Plant Pathology Armstrong Field Station has approximately 135 acres of research and teaching plots, a 2-acre nursery, 10,000 square feet of lab, office, and storage facilities. Current users of the field station are 21 UC Davis faculty members, 6 USDA scientists, 2 county farm advisors, and 1 UC Riverside faculty member. This is a short-term hire position limited to 1000 hours. Initial appointment is expected to start in April and will be four months. Possibility of extension(s), up to the end of October 2021, if incumbent has not reached 1000 hours during initial appointment.
Job Summary
Under close supervision, perform agricultural tasks in and around research plots in fields, orchards, vineyards, and farm shop. Operate tractors, sprayers, and other farm equipment; maintain and repair irrigation infrastructure; plant, prune, apply chemicals, fertilizer, and assist with daily field operations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Lift up to 40 lbs. to a height of 4 feet without assistance.
- With assistance lift tools, equipment, bags of seeds and fertilizers, etc. weighing 50 lbs. to a height of 4 feet.
- Lift implement tongues to a height of 2 feet to hitch to equipment.
- Stoop, bend, and stand for prolonged periods.
- Walk on uneven terrain, including plowed and cloddy ground. Ability to operate vehicles (truck and ATV).
WORK ENVIRONMENT

- Work outdoors in all weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, rain, and dust.

Required:
Additional Minimum License/Certification
- Ability to obtain qualified applicator certification.
Minimum Education/Experience
- Experience performing general agricultural work.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)
- Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions.
- Skills to operate non-powered hand tools including but not limited to: saws, shears, clippers, hammer, wrenches, etc.
- Demonstrated knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
Preferred:
Preferred Education/Experience
- Experience applying pesticides and fertilizers.
- Experience operating/ maintaining tractors and heavy equipment.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)
- Ability to follow precise directions.
- Knowledge to set up, use and calibrate pumps/ sprayers.
- Knowledge of integrated pest management methods and / or nutrient management
