Job Summary

Under direction of the Director of Innovation Access or an Associate Director, manage UC Davis intellectual property for the benefit of the University's research and education mission and society in general. Responsible for patent case management, patenting and licensing UCD inventions in a number of scientific areas, with a primary emphasis in Physical Sciences and Engineering.

Educate campus researchers about intellectual property protection; evaluate invention disclosures and secure appropriate intellectual property protection.

 $103,500.00 - $216,500.00 /annual (Department budgeted salary range: $103,500.00/yr. - $140,000.00/yr. Commensurate with experience.)

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Provide own transportation to off-site events and meetings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/Experience:           

  • Demonstrated ability and experience with interpreting and managing complex agreements.
  • College degree with advanced degree in Engineer and/or Physical Sciences, law or business; or equivalent experience with strong emphasis in a Engineering and/or Physical sciences.
  • Licensing experience in intellectual property and/or knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :

  • Strong organization, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to negotiate and draft license agreements, confidentiality agreements, bailments, letter of intent and options.
  • Knowledge of patent and licensing law and practices.
  • Skills and ability to evaluate, market, protect and license life science and related inventions efficiently and effectively.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Education/Experience:            

  • UC or other higher education experience
  • Experience in a coordination or liaison role.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :

  • Knowledge of sponsored research agreements and material transfer agreements.
  • Written, oral communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to prepare and effectively deliver educational presentations concerning the Technology Transfer Service's activities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Ability to provide assistance, provide regularly scheduled summaries of activities and to respond to other requests by the Director.
