Department Summary:

Risk & Safety Services is the functional unit that supports safety, environmental management, emergency management, risk management and regulatory compliance for the Agriculture & Natural Resources (ANR) division. This requires consultation, communication, training, auditing, claims management, risk assessment and mitigation support for all units in ANR statewide. Our clientele are academic and staff employees, volunteers, and program participants, located at Cooperative Extension offices, Research & Extension Centers, Statewide Programs and Initiatives, and administrative units.

Position Summary:

The Occupational Health Program Coordinator is responsible for tracking, managing, and reporting occupational health information related to all UC ANR employees statewide. This includes information related to the UC vaccination program policy, Department of Transportation Drug & Alcohol Testing Program, pre-employment medical clearances, and medical surveillance programs. The Occupational Health Program Coordinator will provide employee-centered program guidance and education regarding occupational medical surveillance programs. Will serve as UC ANR's operational point of contact for vaccination program compliance and medical surveillance management impacting employees. The position serves as a communicator and coordinator with Human Resources, Risk & Safety, supervisors, employees, and medical providers, including campus occupational health programs and local clinics and physicians.

This position is a contract appointment that is 100% fixed.

 

The home department for this position is EH&S / RISK SERVICES. While this position normally is based at 2801 Second Street, Davis, CA, this position is eligible for hybrid flexible work arrangements, for applicants living in the State of California, at this time. Please note that hybrid flexible work arrangements are subject to change by the University. 

 

Pay Scale: $64,300/year to $89,300/year

Key Responsibilities:

35%

Program operations: Serve as liaison between employee, supervisor, Human Resources, EH&S, Workers Compensation, and medical providers to ensure accurate and timely flow of information to manage claims and employee work status. Oversees and coordinates messages regarding occupational health-related information to relevant parties, including employees, volunteers, and program participants (as required), in coordination with other ANR departments to ensure timely services/needs are addressed. This includes verifying and reporting information related to medical clearances, medical follow-ups, and medical accommodations. Work with EH&S SMEs to identify program preventive safety and health actions from new or uncontrolled hazards in the workplace. May coordinate onsite vaccination clinics or other onsite resources statewide. Serve as point of contact for employee and volunteer compliance with UC vaccination program policy. Support public health or occupational health response to disease outbreaks. Support UC ANR's programs to maintain compliance with Cal/OSHA COVID-19 Prevention standard (8CCR3205), including tracking and follow-up of reported cases.

Medical Surveillance Program: Develop and implement UC ANR's Medical Surveillance Program, which includes: Collaborate with HR and departments to identify positions requiring medical surveillance/medical monitoring participation based on specific job classifications and/or job duties. Work with Human Resources and departments to schedule individuals for prescribed medical monitoring assessment with occupational health clinics prior to initial start date or prior to expiration of recurring surveillance. Assist with identifying occupational health clinics and preparing request/authorization for medical services from occupational health clinics statewide. Maintain recordkeeping for medical surveillance exams. Coordinate and participate in the planning and implementation of program training, including educational training seminars and screening programs. Interact and collaborate with several multidisciplinary teams as well as external partners to ensure program compliance.

Records Management: Handles electronic patient records and maintains them following federal, state, and campus requirements. This will include data entry into database information for medical clearances of anyone requiring medical surveillance or medical follow-ups for specific research projects or areas identified by campus hazard assessment or determined by the job performed. Coordinates data management, and develops reporting and analysis. Maintain records for compliance with University vaccination program policy.

Reporting: Prepares confidential correspondence and other written materials for department management related to the Occupational Health Program. Manages the files in the occupational health program, extracts data to prepare reports, using excel to create reports as necessary. Provide reports to demonstrate compliance with policies, laws, and regulations.

Requirements:

  •         Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  •          Proven interpersonal skills, customer service orientation, active listening skills, and organizational skills. 
  •          Proven ability to concisely present complex risk findings and make recommendations verbally and in writing 
  •          Proven ability to use critical thinking and analytical skills to solve problems. 
  •          Ability to maintain confidentiality, while maintaining a high degree of professionalism. 
  •          Knowledge of applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations.

 

Preferred Skills:

  •         Thorough knowledge in the following areas: workers compensation; insurance; knowledge of common organization-specific computer application programs; knowledge of organizational processes and procedures; understanding of organization rules and regulations.
  •          Experience with medical records filing procedures, knowledge of medical terminology, and knowledge of compliance of occupational health regulations.

 

Special Conditions of Employment:

  • This position is a contract appointment that is 100% fixed and ends 2 years from date of hire with the possibility of extension if funding permits. 
  •         Must possess valid California Driver's License to drive a County or University vehicle. Ability and means to travel on a flexible schedule as needed, proof of liability damage insurance on vehicle used is required. Reimbursement of job-related travel will be reimbursed according to University policies.
  •         The University reserves the right to make employment contingent upon successful completion of the background check. This is a designated position requiring a background check and may require fingerprinting due to the nature of the job responsibilities. UC ANR does hire people with conviction histories and reviews information received in the context of the job responsibilities.
