Position Summary: 

The Blood Donor Center currently has three locations:  Campus Blood Donor Center, Medical Center Blood Donor Center, and Mobile Collection sites.  The incumbent will be assigned to a primary area but will be expected to work in all three areas as needed and is responsible for the accurate donor selection and follow through of identification and remediation of deficiencies in screening procedures.  Sets-up and performs various apheresis and whole blood collection procedures including identification of donor reactions and appropriate intervention.  Assists with patient / donor education and follow-up and uses the Nursing Process to assess, plan, intervene, and evaluate patient / donor care.   May be required to act as a charge nurse at any of the three areas as needed.

Salary Range: 

Hourly Rate  Minimum   $77.11           Midpoint     $77.11           Maximum   $77.11

 

Required Qualifications:

  

Competent in venipuncture or venipuncture certification

All external candidates must have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Ability to work flexible hours and flexible locations including evenings, nights, weekends & holidays.

Current California RN license

Strong customer service orientation

Demonstrated knowledge and practice of infection control techniques

Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English

One year of RN experience doing apheresis patient/donor collections

Ability to maintain flexibility and work well in a constantly changing environment

Ability to communicate in person, with a wide range of people in an effective professional manner

 

 

Licenses and Certifications:

Basic Life Support(Required)

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science, Nursing

Understanding of FDA, DHS, AABB, CAP, Title 22, Joint Commission, and CDC guidelines
