Position Summary: 

The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) is primarily responsible for the performance of moderately complex laboratory testing on patient samples for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. The MLT must ensure that all the equipment and instruments used to perform patient testing are maintained according to the manufacturer's specifications and that both the instruments and chemicals used must pass quality control testing before patient testing is allowed to proceed. MLTs work under the supervision of the Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) to perform moderate complexity testing on patient samples. Similar to the CLSs, MLTs must undergo regular competency test to check his/her ability to perform moderately complexed testing and must continue to pass these competencies in order to maintain his/her ability to perform patient testing.

Required Qualifications:

 

Associate Degree or equivalent in required science courses according to California Lab Law and Regulations for MLT. Must have approved and current CA state license (MLT). Computer application experience/proficiency preferred. Meets additional qualifications and training requirements according to California Lab Law and Regulations for MLT. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other incumbents of the organization.

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures and forms
