Description
The primary mission of the University of California Police is the protection of life and property on University property. The primary goal of the department is to accomplish its mission in a manner that enhances and supports the University's ability to deliver quality higher education and research opportunities in a peaceful environment. To provide guidance for officers tasked with accomplishing the stated mission within department policies and procedures, and as defined within their assigned responsibilities and duties. Individual responsibilities of officers are described in the University wide Police Policies and Procedures manual and local UC Riverside Police Policy Manual.

As a university employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements. Education Education Requirements Degree Requirement U.S. High school diploma; GED certificate; high school equivalency certificate; or a two (2) year, four (4) year, or advanced degree from an accredited or approved college/university. Certifications Certification Requirement Basic, Intermediate, or Advanced POST Certificate from the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training. Preferred
Experience Special Conditions Special Condition Requirement Public Driving Record Required Drug and Alcohol Test Required Overtime Required Shift Work (hours outside standard Mon-Fri 8AM-5PM work hours) Required Must be willing to periodically travel and work special event assignments to provide safety on other UC campuses (i.e. football games, festival/concerts, UC Regent meetings, etc). Required U.S. citizenship Required 21 years of age or older at the time of appointment Required Vision no less than 20/100, correctable to at least 20/30 in both eyes; normal color vision (an exception for contact lenses is available) Required No hearing impairment Required Ability to successfully complete a POST Regular Basic Course at an approved academy, if necessary Required No felony convictions (pursuant to Government Code 1029) Required Possession of a valid, class "C" California driver's license with a prudent driving record, as evidenced by DMV report Required Extensive background investigation (sustained findings of misconduct related to moral turpitude, sexual harassment, bias, discrimination, or any other finding determined to be inconsistent with the University?s principles and values, or a resignation while under investigation are disqualifying factors) : medical and psychological examinations Required Successful assessment by an interview panel comprised of police department personnel, students, non-police staff and faculty of the UCR campus community. Minimum Requirements Ability and willingness to work in an environment which demands police officer integrity, excellence, accountability and respect, personal involvement in the community as a problem solving resource, must demonstrate behaviors that are consistent with the University?s Principles of Community and the ability to be a friendly outgoing, caring and approachable person
Ability and willingness to work rotation shifts with changing days off, in a twenty-four, seven-day operation. Ability to meet the rigorous mental and physical requirements of police work, and work effectively under pressure in potentially hazardous or ambiguous situations
Strong oral and written communication skills
Basic computer proficiency
Preferred Qualifications Knowledge and understanding of local, state and federal laws applicable to the police function generally, and to the University of California police function specifically
Knowledge and understanding of the workings of the California criminal justice system
Knowledge and understanding of current police practices, protocols and procedures
Current or recent University of California affiliation as a student or staff member
