DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
UC Systemwide Procurement is the procurement/supply chain hub for the University of California system, with over $10 billion in annual spend. We partner with campus procurement offices to develop and implement systemwide supply chain strategies and policies that leverage UC's vast purchasing power to optimize spend and deliver positive social and environmental impact. Systemwide Procurement is transforming how UC purchases goods and services to maximize benefit to the UC system while improving quality and service to our campuses and beyond. We apply best-in-class sourcing methods with emphasis on sustainability and supplier diversity, invest in leading tools and technology, and cultivate strategic supplier partnerships to source the highest quality products and services for the absolute best value. UC Systemwide Procurement is a high-performing strategic department essential to the financial and operational health of the University of California, with high impact at the state and national levels.

POSITION SUMMARY
UC Systemwide Procurement is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented individual to access, understand, and collect key eProcurement and Procure-to-Pay operational metrics relevant across all 10 campuses within the UC system. The ideal candidate will be adept at navigating complex data environments, extracting meaningful insights, and compiling comprehensive reports that inform procurement strategies. This role requires a strong proficiency in system and tool navigation, data analytics, and the ability to seamlessly pivot project and work scope to address tasks related to systems improvement and finance Center of Excellence (COE) initiatives.

This is a full-time summer internship position, with a flexible start and end date. If you are passionate about learning, developing great processes, translating financial data into meaningful insights, and want to gain hands-on experience in these areas, we encourage you to apply!

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Analysis - Develop relevant metrics (KPIs) for existing eProcurement processes and systems across all campuses. Analyze data to derive meaningful insights and trends. Gather and report on data, with quality checks and stakeholders' alignment and approval, in a timely manner. Input data in various systems and complete technical solutions as requested. By the end of the internship, create and present a consolidated report of relevant metrics of existing eProcurement processes. 
  • Project Management - Work with multiple stakeholders on establishing and meeting clear objectives, timelines, and deliverables. 
  • Communication - Interpret and explain metrics to relevant stakeholders, including team members and leaders, in a clear and concise manner. Regularly report on project progress, findings, and insights to supervisor.
  • Documentation – Document processes, methodologies, and findings for future reference and knowledge sharing.
  • Assist in other related tasks as needed.

Skills and Abilities
Required Qualifications

  • Experience with Database Management, Business Intelligence, or Data Visualization.
  • Exceptional data analytics skills and proficiency with relevant data tools. Ability to summarize statistical data and communicate technical information to various levels in the organization.
  • Ability to critically evaluate data sources, methodologies, and results to ensure the integrity and reliability of the reporting process.
  • Aptitude for identifying challenges and finding creative solutions to overcome obstacles encountered during the reporting and analysis process.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing requirements, priorities, and data sources throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Demonstrated curiosity and interest in learning in an enterprise environment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team.

Education

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Data Science, Math, Computer Science, Finance, or related field.
  • Currently enrolled University of California undergraduate student required.
  • High school graduate and/or equivalent experience/training required.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement within the state of California. The person hired is required to reside within California and is required to report to work on-site at UC's Office of the President (UCOP) located in Oakland, CA on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, subject to change.
