Campus Recreation is a department within the Division of Student Affairs that provides fitness, wellness and recreation programs to the campus community through the operation and administration of the following: The Activities and Recreation Center (ARC), Pavilion, Live Well, Outdoor Adventures, Recreation Sports, Sports Clubs, Equestrian Center, Craft Center, Aquatics Program, Youth Programs and the UC Davis Marching Band.
Job Summary
Under supervision of the Assistant Director of Outdoor Adventures (OA), supervises daily operations of the indoor climbing wall; oversees the backpacking, camping. rock climbing and snow sports programs; coordinates and develops curricula for OA Youth Programs; supervises Student Managers, Student Guides, and Rock Wall staff. Develops, coordinates and executes guide trainings specifically in, but not limited to, the areas of backpacking, snow sports, and rock climbing. Plans and executes quarterly staff development trainings, as well, as other community building opportunities for OA guides.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Varied work hours frequently extend into evenings and weekends, sometimes on short notice, to meet business needs.
- Must be able to lead, participate in, and provide safety for outdoor water and wilderness activities with a high degree of expertise.
- Must be willing to travel to remote destinations throughout North America.
- Position is subject to DMV Pull Notice system.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Additional Minimum License/Certification:
- Must possess (or obtain within 6 months from date of hire) Adult CPR/AED certification, and Wilderness First Responder.
- Must possess (or obtain within 6 months from date of hire) valid driver's license.
Minimum Education/Experience:
- At least 3 years of experience in the field of outdoor recreation with increasing responsibility. 1 year of experience should be in a supervisory/leadership position.
- Experience and skills to teach on topics related to outdoor adventure activities.
- Technical skill, specialized knowledge and experience with a wide variety of outdoor programs including both land and water-based activities, especially in the areas of backpacking, snow sports, rock climbing.
- Experience with recruitment, selection, training, supervision and evaluation of staff.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):
- Knowledge of best practices for indoor climbing walls, including risk management, customer service, and equipment maintenance.
- Communication and interpersonal skills to work supportively, collaboratively and diplomatically with a wide variety of colleagues, faculty, patrons and students both inside and outside the department.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Additional Preferred License/Certification:
- Current Wilderness First Aid Instructor Certification.
- Current Single Pitch Instructor Certification
- Current CWA or AMGA Climbing Wall Instructor Certification
Preferred Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in recreation administration, business, leadership or other related area and 5+ years of experience in the field of outdoor recreation and leadership with at least 3 of those years being in a supervisory/leadership position.
- Experience in a collegiate recreation setting.
