Hiring/Budgeted Salary or Hourly Range: The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $28.56/hr. -  $29.77/hr. [$59,650/yr. - $62,162/yr.]

Full Salary Range: $24.95/hr. - $42.10/hr. [$52,095.60 - $87,904.80/yr.] Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University.

Brief Summary of Job Duties

The Recycling and Composting Coordinator works under the Assistant Director for Business Services to supervise, mentor and educate students in the areas of Recycling, Department of Public Worms, and other services as assigned. May work with other staff in Business areas such as the Food Bank and Bicycle Shop. Advises the Zero Waste Committee. Oversees the daily operations of these programs. The goals include reducing landfill waste through the management of campus-wide recycling, and composting programs, purchasing of recycled materials and educating the campus and surrounding community on waste reduction principles. Establishes operating procedure, supervises student staff. Oversees the annual Recycling and Department of Public Worms budget. Serves as a liaison with Facilities Management, other campus waste management entities and when needed, the local community. Responsible for further development of the recycling and composting program, working with a team of staff to develop funding and management for new initiatives developed by staff and students.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • 1-3 years: Exercises a high degree of initiative, problem solving ability, diplomacy and professional judgment.
  • 1-3 years experience in facilitating experiential learning in sustainable agriculture and food systems, teaching and mentoring students, and supporting student agency, initiative, and empowerment.
  • 1-3 years experience in managing waste and recycling programs
  • 1-3 years experience in recycling, environmental studies or planning, or a field related to solid waste operations
  • 1-3 years relevant experience and knowledge of recycling techniques and have the ability to communicate the recycling program effectively

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1-3 years Demonstrated experience working or leading work within ethnic/cultural or identity-based resource centers in higher education. 
  • 1-3 years experience facilitating a team approach with student leadership, decision-making, and management, particularly with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
