Job Summary
Serve as a staff veterinarian to provide consistent and quality veterinary care for horses evaluated by the Equine Surgical Emergency and Critical Care Service and Equine Surgery & Lameness Service at the William T. Pritchard Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH). Provide instruction and supervision of DVM students and residents on a daily basis in equine surgery and equine surgical emergency and critical care.
RECRUITMENT PERIOD ONE MONTH: Applicants will be screened on a weekly basis. The position can be filled prior to the removal date.
THIS POSITION ENDS ONE YEAR FROM DATE OF HIRE WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF EXTENSION.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Safely move and restrain horses.
- Contact with animals, including restraint of large animals.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Work weekdays, weekends and evenings/nights (emergency coverage).
- UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum License/Certification:
- Current CA or University Veterinary Licensure, and good standing with the CA Veterinary Medical Board.
- Board Certified or residency trained in veterinary surgery.
Minimum Education/Experience:
- DVM or equivalent degree.
- Clinical experience and competence in equine surgery and critical care.
- Experience in teaching (particularly clinical instruction), providing oversight of professional students, residents and technicians in all aspects of equine surgery and critical care.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):
- Interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including skills to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere.
- Computer skills to enter and retrieve information.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Education/Experience:
- Experience with the structure and function of the VMTH Equine Surgery and Equine Surgical Emergency and Critical Care Services
- Experience with UC/VMTH data systems such as, but not limited to VMACs, AGFA and VIPER.
