Provides leadership, imaging expertise, support and education to the staff technologists to assure optimum performance of imaging procedures and protocols.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Registered by ARDMS with specialties in Abdominal and Obstetrical/Gynecology.

2. Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.

EXPERIENCE:

1. Five (5) years of ultrasound experience in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position.  They are not intended to be constructed as an all-inclusive list of all responsibilities and duties.  Other duties may be assigned.

1. Manages personnel to ensure a well-developed cohesive work force to meet patient care needs as it relates to all aspects of imaging services within the institution.

2. Supervises human resource functions related to: interviewing, selection, staff performance appraisals and retention of staff.

3. Facilitates new employee orientation in assigned imaging sections, ensuring competencies are obtained by new staff.

4. Provides ongoing feedback to employees concerning job performance. Counsels and disciplines employees, when necessary, in conjunction with management.

5. Participates in making recommendations for preparation of the budget for the ultrasound division

6. Assists in on going educational programs, including in-services.

7. Collaborate with clinical sites to ensure ordering of supplies and inventory maintenance is completed.

8. Creates protocols across the Ultrasound division and ensure each clinical location is consistent.

9. Ensures consistent practice of diagnostic quality imaging among all shifts, individuals, and areas of ultrasound. Audits images.

10. Maintains an expertise in anatomy, physiology and pathology relative to imaging in order to optimize the procedure and ensure patient care/safety.

11. Supports and mentors staff by promoting cooperative problem solving and team building by displaying a professional attitude and demeanor.

12. Engages in problem solving, crisis management and systems implementation throughout the hospital to promote and support patient care. Provide primary support for any IT or system related issues with equipment or software.

13. Provide direct feedback to Chair and Administrator for division performance.

14. Participates in planning and implementing change, maintaining and improving high quality, cost effective department operations.

15. Reviews daily and next day schedule for areas of conflict or openings. Determines on a daily basis where additional studies can be scheduled each day.

16. Schedules sonographers in each clinical site to ensure that adequate coverage is maintained at all locations. Prepares staffing schedules based on service demands and equality patient care standards.

17. In conjunction with Chair and Administrator, holds staff meetings to relay important information and discuss issues relating to the ultrasound division.

18. Functions as a liaison with other departments to coordinate services.

19. Serves as a first contact for staff regarding operational, daily tasks and customer satisfaction for the ultrasound division.

20. Educates staff and assists in resident education regarding imaging procedures by explaining the procedure and answering questions accordingly.

21. Performs in a sonographer imaging staff role, as needed, within scope of practice.

22. Competently performs a full range of ultrasound imaging procedures to provide optimum information for the diagnosis and ultimate treatment of patients.

23. Acts as the imaging expert, routinely performing image analysis and implementing image correction processes as needed.

24. Acts as system administrator and ensures EPIC workflows and AIUM protocols are in place appropriately.

25. Troubleshoots equipment and network problems. Assures equipment maintenance by reporting malfunctions as required by policy and procedure and by regulatory agencies.

26. In conjunction with the Administrator and Clinic Managers; assures regulatory, licensing and accreditation compliance for section.

27. Participates in Image Evaluation and Analysis as directed by the Chair and Administrator.

28. First contact for new clinic set-ups for ultrasound for the department and IT/AS software contacts.

29. Functions as a liaison with AIUM between all clinical sites, ensuring new sites are AIUM accredited and routine timelines are met to keep the accreditation.
