Job Summary
We are looking for a PRN Drug Screening Collector/Medical Assistant to support medical and safety efforts at large scale construction site located in Clay, NY. This project is anticipated to last multiple years with exact timing to be determined by client requirements.
The Drug Screening Collector/Medical Assistant is responsible for providing clinical, administrative, and occupational health services with oversight from the Onsite Registered Nurse (RN), Program Manager (PM), Clinic Manager/Nurse Practitioner (NP), and Consulting Medical Director (CMD).
This role supports medical, safety, and compliance efforts at a large-scale construction and occupational health site in Clay, NY. Responsibilities include patient care, clinic operations, workers' compensation support, wellness and diagnostic testing, and DOT/non-DOT drug and alcohol specimen collection in accordance with HIPAA, Federal, and site-specific regulations. This PRN role is expected to transition to full-time based on client needs and project duration.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
- Perform diagnostic and occupational health testing including vital signs, EKGs, audiograms, pulmonary function tests, vision acuity testing, respirator fit testing, and wellness testing (body fat, aerobic capacity, strength assessments, etc.)
- Prepare patients for examinations and assist providers during exams.
- Obtain and document patient medical histories and vital signs.
- Provide patient education regarding medications, diet, exercise, tobacco cessation, and prescribed therapies.
- Perform laboratory procedures including phlebotomy, urinalysis, cholesterol and glucose testing, and immunizations (as permitted by certification and supervision).
- Administer first aid and supervised medical treatments such as suture removal, splinting, dressing application, and ear/eye irrigation per provider direction.
- Calibrate, clean, and sterilize medical equipment according to established protocols.
Drug & Alcohol Screening Duties
- Collect oral fluid, urine, and breath alcohol specimens in accordance with DOT and non-DOT standards.
- Maintain chain of custody documentation and ensure compliance with HIPAA, federal regulations, and company/site policies.
- Receive training and maintain certification to DOT drug and alcohol testing standards.
Administrative & Operational Duties
- Answer phones, greet patients, manage correspondence, and schedule appointments.
- Maintain and update patient medical records accurately and confidentially.
- Order, track, and maintain medical and office supplies; manage medication and supply expiration logs.
- Assist with special client requests and additional occupational and environmental health services as needed.
Workers' Compensation Case Management
- Assist with managing workers' compensations cases, documentation, and coordination under the direction of clinical leadership.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent experience preferred.
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) required.
- CNA certification preferred.
- One to three years' of healthcare, occupational health, or related experience preferred.
- Occupational health and construction site experience preferred.
- Phlebotomy certification preferred.
Licenses & Certifications
- Current BLS certification required.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Willingness and ability to obtain HIPAA certification upon hire.
- willingness to obtain and maintain DOT drug and alcohol collection training and certification.

Computer Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Experience using Windows operating systems, email, internet applications, and electronic medical record systems.
- Ability to learn additional software as needed.
Physical Demands
- Prolonged sitting and computer use; occasional standing, walking, bending, stopping, kneeling, and crouching.
- Manual dexterity required for clinical and computer tasks.
- Ability to lift up to 15 pounds routinely and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to climb stairs and kneel for extended periods when rendering emergency care or CPR.
Work Environment
- Primarily indoor medical clinic and construction-site clinic environments.
- Moderate noise levels with controlled temperature and good air quality.
- Exposure to normal clinical setting with adherence to safety and infection control standards.
This position has an hourly pay range of $26 - $28 per hour. Final compensation offered will be determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and qualifications.
