Cognizant is seeking an experienced privacy counsel to join its privacy team, reporting directly into our Americas privacy lead.  While involved in all privacy matters, this role will provide direct support to our Americas business in the U.S., Canada and/or Mexico.  

This role would suit a commercially minded privacy lawyer with interest and experience in technology, either currently working in-house or looking for an in-house move.


The Privacy Counsel for the Americas will be involved in the coordination and management of data privacy issues across the Americas and will work closely with the wider privacy team to support our global business. Day-to-day responsibilities will include:  

  • Providing strategic advice and direction on product and service development privacy issues across the organization

  • Providing legal compliance support and advice to business and legal teams

  • Driving, developing and implementing privacy policies, projects and strategies

  • Management of key stakeholders to ensure their support of and alignment with the global privacy program's objectives and requirements

  • Monitoring developments in regulatory and legislative change and best practice and advising the wider organization on necessary organizational changes required

  • Driving awareness and accountability throughout the organization toward greater business transparency and reinforcing trust from customers, business partners and consumers

  • Proactively identifying, evaluating and managing risks in a way that enables the organization to deliver sustainable business growth

  • Reviewing and negotiating customer contracts and responding to customer privacy questionnaires and audits

  • Supporting privacy due diligence within M&A, reviewing target material agreements, transaction documents and legal matters and providing advice on substantive risks associated with target business and operations.


  • Instructing and managing outside counsel on issues of local law and practice

  • Supporting growth of new business opportunities by analyzing privacy implications of new products and services and providing guidance on minimizing privacy compliance risk

  • Developing and conducting privacy impact and risk assessments

  • Regularly reviewing and evaluating compliance processes to guarantee best practice across all areas of the organization ensuring appropriate monitoring and auditing processes are effectively implemented
