The Highlights: Reporting to the Dean and Senior Director of Business Administration, the Director of Admissions is responsible for the School of Music's admission and recruitment processes and is guided by the need to attract a highly talented, academically admissible and diverse pool of students to inquire, apply, and audition/interview. This individual is the front line representative to prospective students, feeder schools and networks, and peer institutions. This person oversees the School of Music scholarship budget and represents the School of Music on university-wide enrollment management issues. Multi-tasking, people skills, data management excellence, confidence working with technology, commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, big picture thinking and personalism define the person in this position.
What You'll Do:
- RECRUITMENT: Identify, cultivate, and manage resources that will deepen prospect pool, with a focus on minority recruitment. Attends recruitment events and meets regularly with prospective students. Attends and/or coordinate participation in college fairs, festivals/conventions, high school visits, open houses, meetings. Remain professionally active and connected. Coordinate special projects that promote program's visibility.
- APPLICATION PROCESS & REVIEW: Manage receipt and entry of all application materials throughout the full admissions pipeline (inquiry, application, audition/interview, award, decision process, & intention to enroll). Review applications and decision applicants in close collaboration with School of Music faculty. Manage communications with prospective students via Slate. In close collaboration with Director of Marketing & Communications, follows established metrics, interprets data, and regularly assesses related trends to advise senior leadership and regularly inform and support recruitment process, marketing strategy assessment, and dean-level decision-making.
- MANAGE AWARD BUDGET & RELATED PROCESSES: In partnership with Financial Aid Committee, Enrollment Management, and Office of Financial Aid, manages and reconciles scholarship budgets, awarding, processing, negotiation, appeals, and all student-facing communications. Leads process for developing and communicating talent-based awards to admitted students and coordinates the packaging of these funds with other institutional, government, and need-based financial aid sources. Oversight of annual $7-8 million scholarship budget; routinely strategizes ways to maximize our potential to attract the most talented, coveted, and diverse student body to the School of Music.
- UNIVERSITY LIAISON / SCHOOL ADVOCATE & REPRESENTATIVE: serves as primary School liaison with the university's enrollment-affiliated teams, working closely with Enrollment Management, Systems & Operations, Financial Aid, and Global Engagement on goal-setting, address concerns related to financial resource management, and address needs of prospective students.
- MANAGE ADMISSIONS OFFICE: Supervise one full-time staff member and a number of part-time student employees. Orchestrate operational structure of the Admissions office.
- Master of Music degree and strong background in performance preferred.
- At least 3-5 years of related experience in Admissions at the university level OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must have a global view of all aspects the music industry and very strong communication skills. Managerial and people skills essential for this position. Minimum technology skills should include proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with data analysis and interpretation. PeopleSoft, Slate, or similar database management software experience preferred.
