That's Nice, But What's the Job?
In short, the Licensing Manager is responsible for overseeing the timely renewal and ongoing regulatory compliance of business licenses, registrations, and certifications across multiple jurisdictions and industries. This includes used motor vehicle dealer related, sales finance, account servicing, and ancillary product related licenses, to name a few. This role is crucial in ensuring the organization and its employees maintain all required authorizations to operate legally and efficiently. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, a proactive approach to regulatory compliance, and experience of working with state and local licensing agencies.
In long, the Licensing Manager is responsible for:
- Responsible for training and supervision of individuals responsible for managing the full lifecycle of licenses and registrations across federal, state and local jurisdictions. This includes applications, renewals, terminations and regulatory filings.
- Conduct thorough licensing audits ensuring ongoing compliance with regulatory standards.
- Manage the use of a proprietary system used for tracking license information and renewal deadlines, ensuring licensing records are up to date.
- Oversee timely and accurate submissions of renewal applications and associated documentation to prevent lapses or penalties.
- Coordinate with internal departments (Legal, Compliance, Operations, etc.) and external regulatory agencies to support licensing needs for market expansion, business initiatives and new product launches.
- Communicate progress on key licensing initiatives, challenges and successes to leadership and stakeholders.
- Monitor changes in licensing regulations and communicate potential impacts to the organization.
- Identify and implement process improvements to streamline operational processes, creating and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Build strong relationships with both internal and external contacts driving seamless licensing operations.
- Support internal and external regulatory requests by preparing and providing accurate documentation.

The Specifics.
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Legal Studies, Public Administration, or related field (preferred).
- 1-3+ years of experience in licensing, compliance, or regulatory affairs, with a focus on Consumer Finance, Ancillary, or Motor Vehicle Dealer Licensing.
- 1+ Years of experience in a management or leadership role, such as supervising staff, leading a project, or managing cross-functional teams.
- Strong knowledge of regulatory environments across multiple jurisdictions.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills.
- High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and license management software/tools
