The Senior GC (Gas Chromatograph) Technician‘s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Possesses strong mechanical/electrical aptitude and skills.

  • Has the ability to use hand tools, follow written and verbal instructions.

  • Is able and willing to work in either a team environment or on an individual bases as circumstances warrant.

  • Operates, repairs, tests, troubleshoots, adjusts and/or installs bench and on-line, portable process gas / liquid chromatograph equipment used in the natural gas industry.

  • Performs mechanical functions and duties of inspecting, checking, troubleshooting, repairing, and replacing all mechanical equipment in order to maintain high levels of safe and productive equipment performance.

  • Properly completes records of time and required regulatory reports.

  • Maintains close contact with the supervisor regarding maintenance trouble reports and scheduled equipment maintenance to affect a minimum interruption of product throughout.

  • Optimizes work to affect a minimal amount of overtime.

  • Participates in available cross training to effectively develop skills in areas specific to other technicians.

  • Attends all safety meetings and safety training courses as required by regulatory agencies.

  • Properly collects gas and NGL samples

  • Installs, operates and maintains gas and liquid sampling and sample conditioning systems.

  • Acquires information on site using stain tubes or electronic devices for obtaining H2S, CO2, O2, water content and nitrogen.

  • Schedules, completes and witnesses chromatograph test.

  • Develops and maintains chromatograph test schedules.

  • Installs equipment from drawings, schematics and manufacturer's manuals.

  • Troubleshoots and rectifies equipment failures using voltmeters and test equipment.

  • Plans, schedules and coordinates work with other departments to ensure timely completion of equipment installation and repair.

  • Operates appropriate PC software.

  • Improves the reliability of the gas chromatographs currently in use at the plants and on the pipeline system.

  • Routinely reviews procedures to achieve positive performance.

  • Ensures compliance of all Company and industry standards to meet the requirements of all regulatory agencies.




Requirements

The successful candidate will meet the following qualifications:

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is required.

  • An Associate's degree in a technical field, such as: Chemistry, Gas Measurement, Electronics, etc. is preferred.

  • A minimum of 7+ years' work experience in the natural gas industry is preferred.

  • An advanced level of knowledge in gas measurement is required.

  • A valid driver's license with acceptable driving record is required.

  • Ability to follow written or spoken instructions; understand equipment repair manuals; and Federal, state and local codes and regulations is required.

  • General knowledge in the field of electronics, natural gas chemistry, gas chromatograph, operations, applications, equipment and servicing methods is required.

  • The ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, such as, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical solutions is required.

  • Basic computer skills such as: opening, creating and updating content in MS Word documents and Excel spreadsheets are required.

  • Ability to assume responsibility, be flexible, perform duties and handle multiple tasks under potentially stressful and/or hazardous conditions is required.

  • The ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, with other individuals, teams, customers, and stakeholders of the business, at various levels of the organization, in a business-like and professional manner is required.

  • The ability to modify communication style in order to influence, persuade, negotiate, and engage all parties according to the audience and circumstance is required.

  • Ability to take initiative and be proactive in addressing issues, while quickly and efficiently completes tasks, is required.

  • Must be able to climb and work at various heights and may work in a standing, sitting, lying down, crouched or kneeling position.

  • Ability to routinely reacts to visual, aural and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work.

  • May work in confined spaces (i.e., tanks, between compressors, vessels).

  • Must be able to regularly bend, stoop, move from ground level to higher levels, raise/lift from ground level and lift up to 50 lbs., manually transport a load up to 75 lbs. and apply up to 100 foot pounds of torque.

  • Must have ability to get in and out of vehicles regularly and ride over rough roads.

  • Must wear special safety equipment while working and must be able to lift and put on emergency breathing apparatus and/or protective equipment.

  • The ability to take call-outs and work overtime is required.

  • Must live or relocate to within 45 minutes of reporting location
