About the Role
Are you ready to grow your career in vehicle maintenance? First Student is hiring a skilled Technician II to keep our fleet running safely and reliably. In this hands-on role, you'll perform a mix of routine and advanced mechanical work on school buses, vans, and other vehicles, while working under moderate supervision. You'll also support senior technicians and help guide junior team members.

What You'll DoPerform preventative maintenance, visual inspections, and minor repairs (bulbs, belts, fluids, filters, batteries, hoses, etc.)
Complete more advanced mechanical repairs under moderate supervision—brakes, tune-ups, suspension, clutches, drive trains, and more
Assist Technician III with PMs, safety checks, and major component replacements (engine, transmission, differential)
Diagnose and troubleshoot vehicle and equipment issues with accuracy
Respond to road calls and emergency repairs as needed
Maintain accurate records of completed work, including parts usage and work orders
Move vehicles safely around the yard and maintain a clean work environment
Help maintain and repair shop equipment
Clean vehicles as requested
Follow all company safety policies and procedures
High school diploma or GED preferred
Vocational or technical certification in vehicle repair preferred
3+ years of diesel or automotive repair experience (or equivalent education/experience)
Valid driver's license
Class B CDL with passenger endorsement (or ability to obtain within 3 months)
ASE Certification preferred; must participate in ASE testing and obtain 3 ASE certifications within 12 months
Intermediate mechanical and diagnostic skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Organized, detail-oriented, and safety-focused
Comfortable with hand tools and diagnostic software
Strong communication and customer service skills
Must have personal tool inventory suitable for the role
Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds
Ability to work in all weather conditions and in shop environments with dust, grease, and noise
Must be able to work in crouched or prone positions using a creeper under vehicles
