Design and Drafting Supervisor – Engineering Manager
REMOTE with 10% travel
Overview:
A leading firm in the nuclear energy sector is seeking a skilled and experienced Design and Drafting Supervisor to guide the technical design team. As Engineering Manager, you will oversee the production of detailed technical drawings and documentation for complex engineering projects, ensuring impeccable quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership: Supervise, mentor, and develop a talented team of design and drafting professionals to deliver high-quality work and support career growth.
- Project Management: Coordinate design activities across multiple projects, ensuring timely, accurate delivery of drawings and specifications. Prioritize and allocate resources efficiently.
- Design Oversight: Review technical drawings, plans, and designs for accuracy, compliance, and industry standards.
- Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, project managers, and external stakeholders to clarify requirements and resolve design challenges.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all designs adhere to nuclear industry regulations and safety standards.
- Quality Control: Maintain rigorous quality control processes to verify designs meet specifications and client expectations.
- Software Proficiency: Oversee design activities utilizing industry-standard software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Revit, MicroStation, or similar tools.
- Documentation: Manage proper documentation of design work, including drawing revisions and project progress updates.
- Process Improvement: Implement best practices and innovative solutions for greater team efficiency and design accuracy.
- Proposal Development: Provide cost and timeline estimates for potential future projects.
- Training Development: Offer ongoing training opportunities to keep the team at the forefront of design trends and software advancements.
- Associate's Degree or higher in a related field preferred.
- At least 5 years' design and drafting experience in the nuclear, energy, or heavy industry sectors.
- Minimum 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Expertise with 2D/3D drafting tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Revit, MicroStation, etc.).
- Strong knowledge of nuclear engineering design principles and industry codes (ASME, NQA-1, NRC regulations).
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks efficiently.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Certification in CAD or related drafting software desirable.
- Training in nuclear industry quality assurance standards is an advantage.
- Experience with complex nuclear power plant projects or consulting work.
- Familiarity with project management tools and methodologies.
- Ability to excel in fast-paced environments while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
