Job Summary

Design, organize, and coordinate test campaigns for complex aerospace and defense products, systems, or subsystems. 

  • Responsible for driving technology and completion of activities on time and budget
  • Responsible for overall test execution and communication of test results obtained from harsh environments for highly regulated products.
Job Responsibilities
  • Full responsibility for technical execution of qualification and production test efforts for ruggedized defense and aerospace products.
  • Develop prototypes to retire key development risks.
  • Develop and execute test procedures for various MIL-STD and aerospace Environmental Qualification Test (EQT), Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) testing.
  • Analyze designs, test data, distill results, support technical solution development, assess overall program cost and schedule impacts, and communicate results to program management. 
  • Summarize and communicate test results and overall technical and programmatic impacts to regulators and customers.
  • Assist in production integration for high volume production, including designing test plan and procedures, supporting factory integration, interacting with test technicians, and recommending test improvements to support overall factory yields. 
  • Technical coordination of entire product qualification efforts, including reviewing customer specifications and requirements to develop test programs to support them including cost and schedule as key variables, design test strategy, coordinating and leading test efforts, hands-on execution of testing, analysis of test results, documenting component and subsystem specifications and material requirements, and communication of results to DRS management and external stakeholders.
  • Specify and evaluate supplier components, subsystems, and services.
  • Interface with the design team to communicate test results, support root cause investigations, assist in evaluation of technical solutions, assess impacts to the overall test campaign, and define retest plans to ensure compliance to regulatory requirements and customer specifications.
  • Actively support pursuit of new business by developing and presenting new concepts, technologies, or applications as part of Business Development and Program Management team, participating heavily in preparation of the more complex and significant proposals.

  • Develop trusted engineering contacts with the customer. Become a part of the customer's design team, looking out for their best interests. 
  • Mentor, coach, and provide technical expertise and assistance to other engineers and support personnel.
  • Support, communicate, reinforce, and defend the mission, values, and culture of the organization.
  • Attend appropriate engineering, customer, or business meetings.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical field with a minimum of 10 + years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Mastery of technologies and domain knowledge.
  • Expected to have knowledge and significant experience in multiple engineering disciplines in support of product testing.
  • Ability to lead major problem resolution efforts and support regaining or attaining customer partner status.
  • Desired experience with design development and qualification testing of aerospace and defense products.
  • Desired competencies
    • Demonstrated experience with all aspects of test program planning, execution, and reporting
    • Ability to complete and solve complex technical projects both independently and through the coordination and teamwork of engineers and technicians, while mentoring and coaching other engineers
    • Ability to plan, design, and deliver test program results within challenging cost and schedule constraints
    • Demonstrated creativity and lean process development skills applied in support of complex test programs
    • Continuous improvement mindset for test engineering and supporting analysis tools
    • Demonstrated problem solving and root cause and corrective action (RCCA) experience in a design development and qualification test environment
    • Strong electrical and mechanical environmental test skillset
    • Ability to create and maintain a strong action orientated and results driven team culture
    • Effective internal and external customer communication skills
