Tetra Tech is currently seeking a Full-time, Environmental Scientist / Engineer and Field Lead to work out of our Oakland, CA office. 


The selected candidate will have a strong technical background in environmental site investigation and remediation who is interested in career growth and business development opportunities while managing and supporting a variety of environmental projects.  You will:

•    Support project management activities.  Manage field teams.
•    Evaluate, select, and apply standard scientific methods that follow the CERCLA process for hazardous waste site assessment and response actions. Follow established U.S. EPA models for site assessments.
•    Perform preliminary site assessments, site inspections, and expanded site inspections on sites with radionuclide and non-radioactive hazardous substances.
•    Conduct response assessments and evaluation services (RAES).
•    Complete engineering evaluation cost estimates in accordance with CERCLA
•    Operate and/or oversee field equipment for site assessment and safety factors.
•    Recommend adaptations and modifications of scientific or engineering methods using independent judgment.
•    Execute assignments that have clear and specific objectives and require the investigation of a limited number of variables.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have 3-8 years of practical environmental work experience in performing the responsibilities below:. 
•    Demonstrated experience conducting site investigations, environmental sampling of various media, groundwater well design and installation experience.

•    Knowledge in hydrogeology, preparing feasibility studies, remedial action work plans, remedial designs, and implementing site remediation to achieve site closure.   

•    Experience in site investigation, remedial design, practical field experience implementing site characterization and remediation technologies.  

In addition, you will have:
•    Demonstrated experience in support of EPA programs, Department of Defense, or state projects.
•    Experience working on field projects under federal and state regulatory programs.  
•    Previous client management and business development success experience is desirable. 
•    Experience within California and with the California regulations is preferred

You must also:

•    Communication Skills - Must demonstrate strong technical writing/editing ability of technical reports, professional and team-oriented work environment, customer focused, strong interpersonal communication and oral presentation skills, and exceptional attention to detail, planning and organizing, and quality required.  Candidate must possess strong analytical, interpersonal organizational, client management, and communication skills (both written and verbal). 

•    Computer Skills - Must be computer literate and have a strong working knowledge of MS Office programs, including Word and Excel, and the ability to use engineering analytical and statistical programs. Experience using computer software including word processing, spread sheet, and data base programs is required. Experience with GIS or Auto-Cad programs is a plus.

•    Language Skills – Ability to read and interpret documents such as government regulations, safety plans, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customer or employees of organization.

•    Mathematical Skills – Knowledge of advanced mathematics used for technical analyses and calculations.  

•    Reasoning Ability – Analytical approach to problem solving.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.  

Degree / Certifications
• Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Science or Engineering is required
• Master's degree in a similar discipline is a plus
• Professional Registration is preferred  
• 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER trained 

Work Environment
This position involves both office and field environments and requires roughly 30% travel which will vary based on project requirements.  It may include weekend travel and work.  

•    Field work conditions will include a variety of environments and topography, often in remote or isolated areas. You must be able to work outside in all weather conditions both hot and cold.
•    Work is performed where terrain may be steep, uneven, rocky, and covered with vegetation.  You must be able to walk on uneven terrain.
•    Heavy lifting of field sampling and other equipment is required.  You must be able to carry 35 to 40 pounds, pack heavy equipment, and conduct excavations using hand tools. 
•    You must be able to don personal protective gear as needed.  
•    You must also meet physical demands of hazardous waste site work. 
•    Drive on a regular basis. Passing a motor vehicle record background check and maintaining a valid driver's license and good driving record is required.
•    You must be able to travel and work in evenings and on weekends.

The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

The Salary Range for this position is $69,000 to $92,000, depending on education, experience, skills, and location.
