The Opportunity:

The Humanitarian Logistics Capability (HLC), based in Brisbane, is central to Australia's rapid and coordinated humanitarian response across the Indo-Pacific. As Warehouse 2IC, you'll oversee daily warehouse operations, support stock accuracy, and ensure compliance with DFAT and Tetra Tech standards. You'll coordinate workflow, provide on-the-job training, and act as the key contact in the Manager's absence, contributing to surge operations and deployments as needed.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a high-performing team and ensure humanitarian supplies reach those in need, efficiently and safely.

The Program: Humanitarian Logistics Capability (HLC)

The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) Humanitarian Logistics Capability (HLC) delivers timely, effective, and flexible humanitarian assistance and emergency relief worldwide. The HLC warehouse in Brisbane maintains the largest stockpile of prepositioned humanitarian emergency relief supplies in the Southern Hemisphere, supporting up to 55,000 people across multiple crises.

Tetra Tech International Development, as the Implementing Contractor for the HLC, works closely with DFAT, Commonwealth response capabilities, international organisations, and humanitarian partners to deliver high-quality, responsive project management and supply chain solutions.

Your Role:

  • Oversee and participate in daily warehouse operations, including receivals, picking, packing, dispatching, stock storage, and container handling.
  • Operate forklifts and warehouse equipment safely, ensuring all activities comply with safety practices and standards.
  • Coordinate workflow, allocate tasks, and provide on-the-job training to warehouse and labour-hire personnel.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records (including FIFO, expiry tracking, and cycle counts), and ensure warehouse readiness for audits and partner visits.
  • Act as the key contact in the Manager's absence, supporting a safe, clean, and professional environment, and engaging with humanitarian partners and logistics providers.

About You

You are an experienced warehouse or logistics professional with a strong commitment to safety, accuracy, and teamwork. You bring proven experience in inventory control, team coordination, and compliance within a complex environment. You are reliable, proactive, and thrive in a fast-paced setting, with a passion for supporting humanitarian outcomes.

You will possess:

  • Relevant qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain, or a related field, with a valid High Risk Work Licence (LF) for forklift operation.
  • Extensive experience in warehousing, logistics, or inventory control, including use of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and inventory software.
  • Proven ability to lead, coordinate, and motivate small teams, with strong communication, collaboration, and training skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of inventory control processes (e.g., FIFO, expiry tracking), and confidence operating within WHS frameworks, including hazardous goods compliance.
  • High computer literacy (especially Microsoft Office), strong attention to detail, reliability, and a proactive, safety-focused approach.
  • Physically capable of working in a demanding environment, committed to continuous improvement and fostering an inclusive workplace culture.
