Our Midwest & Rockies Operations are currently seeking a Project Manager - Public Outreach to support a variety of projects in a dynamic environmental consulting environment in our experienced energy practice. This practice includes routing, siting, and permitting of fossil fuel, wind, and solar, electric power generation, electric transmission lines and substations, natural gas pipelines, compressor stations, and other related facilities.


The Project Manager will be responsible for identifying, developing, and coordinating delivery of overall public outreach strategies to support the goals, policies, initiatives, and day-to-day activities of energy clientele. This role also includes non-Project Management opportunities such as being as a key member of a project siting and permitting team who interfaces with or supports interaction with internal and external stakeholders.


The Project Manager will lead the development of proposals, cost estimates, profit and loss of individual projects, the completion of projects within specified dates, and establishing and maintaining a professional and satisfactory relationship with coworkers, clients, subcontractors, regulatory agencies and project stakeholders. 

  • Lead the development of public outreach materials to support infrastructure & energy development projects such as natural gas pipelines, electric transmission lines, substations and renewable energy facilities.

  • Research, compile and analyze public and stakeholder information for aiding public outreach strategy and materials development.

  • Lead the coordination of project logistics and work products with other team members to facilitate project meetings, stakeholder outreach, public meetings, tracking and recording stakeholder contacts and project-related issues.

  • Lead and mentor staff in traditional media and social media monitoring.

  • Lead and mentor staff and review deliverables for grammar, style, branding, and consistency with client messaging approaches.

  • Attend and coordinate client and public/stakeholder meetings, including preparation of presentation materials.

  • Lead and mentor staff in the development, design, content, and updates for project websites.

  • Develop materials to explain complex concepts in simple terms for non-technical, diverse audiences.

  • Track and measure public outreach activities through development of reports and analysis of public outreach metrics.

  • Track budgets, review deliverables, attend client meetings and communicate with clients.

  • Develop new business proposals and budgets.

  • Conduct industry research in support of client projects and business development efforts.

  • Work with vendors and subcontractors in production of public outreach materials.

  • Lead and mentor staff in the development of public outreach materials such as strategic communication plans, key messages, stakeholder databases, fact sheets, newsletters, brochures, website development, meeting displays, postcards, door hangers, media releases, social media content.

  • Lead public outreach services for other Project Managers in support of land use permit application and/or siting & routing studies.

  • Participate in the development and implementation of public outreach growth initiatives.

  • Research and gain insight and implement new technologies that will be used to conduct public outreach services.


  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public affairs, public relations, community relations, or journalism preferred. A Bachelor's degree in a science discipline may be considered with applicable experience.

  • 5-8 years of demonstrated work experience performing similar tasks.

  • Competency with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) required.

  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud desired.

  • Competency with Associated Press (AP) Style conventions.

  • Demonstrated writing abilities and organizational skills.

  • Understanding of Public Relations concepts and how to craft and implement project-specific public communications approaches that include both traditional media and digital media tactics.

  • Possess the ability to act independently with task management roles, have a strong attention to detail, and a proven commitment to quality management, continuous improvement and client satisfaction.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, coordinate effectively with others, and work independently and as part of a team.

  • Ability and interest in working as part of a team in a fast-paced consulting environment with the capability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.

  • Willingness and ability to travel is required.

  • Understanding of the development and construction of energy infrastructure projects is a plus.

  • Spanish speaking is a plus.
