Tetra Tech's geotechnical office in Diamond Bar, CA provides a very broad range of services to a very broad range of clients.  Our projects include dams, levees, surface mining and reclamation, landfill design, expansions, and closures, brownfield redevelopments, infrastructure projects, landslides assessments and mitigations, and conventional geotechnical engineering projects involving foundations for hi-rises, commercial, industrial, single-family buildings, as well as offers forensics, expert, and agency review services.  Our clients include federal, state, county, and local government agencies as well as private entities.  Our staff includes certified and mostly higher degree geotechnical engineering, geology, and field construction staff.  The Diamond Bar geotechnical group provides advanced geotechnical engineering services, typically focusing on earthquake engineering and advanced numerical modeling, to the Tetra Tech's worldwide operations.  Although most of our projects are in Southern California, we routinely provide services in Northern California, Arizona, and New Mexico, and occasionally across the country and internationally.

 

Our office is seeking a Soils Technician.  The ideal candidate will have experience in at least some of the following: grading observations and compaction testing, soil classification, percolation testing, field permeability testing, pile/tieback/soil nail construction observations, landfill liner installation observations, and vibration monitoring.  Duties include but are not limited to field construction quality assurance activities, and preparation of daily field reports for submittal to engineers. Familiarity and competency with basic laboratory testing is a plus. The pay scale for this position is $25 - $40 an hour, based on qualifications and experience. 

 

Your Role:

  • Primary responsibility is performing and documenting field grading observations and testing observations of removals, bottom certifications, and compaction testing
  • Secondary responsibilities include:
    • Infiltration testing
    • Field permeability testing
    • Pile/tieback/soil nail construction observations
    • Landfill liner installation observations
    • Vibration monitoring
    • Sample processing and laboratory testing
    • Soils logging and field borehole preparation

 

Qualifications:

  • Nuclear gauge certification
  • 40-hr HAZWOPER training
  • Experience in a geotechnical consulting firm is preferred
  • Familiarity with common geotechnical engineering analyses
  • Familiarity with Unified Soil Classification System ASTM D2488
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Willingness to work in the field as needed
  • Ability/willingness to travel
  • Must be able to work outdoors under varying weather conditions, travel by foot over rough terrain, and lift at least 40 pounds
