SAIC is currently seeking a Mechanical Systems Technician in Middletown, RI. The candidate will work to support the MK48 Shapes program and will be tasked to support maintenance, repair & upgrade of heavyweight torpedo shapes for U.S. Navy and FMS customers.  Shape categories include but are not limited to Launch Vehicles, Training Shapes, Fitment Shapes, Dummy Launch Vehicles, Pre-Settable Launch Vehicles (PLV), Display Shapes, and Reconfigurable Test Shapes (RTS). Shape maintenance occurs on a weekly basis.

Candidate will support maintenance on torpedo shapes at government or contractor sites. The Candidate will inspect the shape to verify that no corrosion or material deficiencies exist that would cause the shape not to function as identified in Applicable Documents.  When a deficiency is identified, the candidate will generate a Technical Deficiency Report with oversight from Shapes Project Manager. The candidate will be tasked with supporting the preparation of the shape for shipment and record the change of the location in the Shapes Tracking System Database.

Job Duties:

  • Responsible for the checkout and visual inspection of MK48 Shapes.
  • Usage of facility cranes.
  • Performing maintenance tasks of the Shapes facilities.
  • Assembling and installing equipment.
  • Creating, building, modifying and repairing Shapes with oversight from Shapes Project Manager following approved procedures.
  • Facility and system upkeep and organization.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 3+ years' of experience in related mechanical technician role, including but not limited to auto mechanics.
  • Must have the ability to obtain SECRET level clearance.
  • Proficiency with computers and basic use of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Experience with some of the following:
    • Comfortable working with basic mechanical tools.
    • Must be able to work in a team environment while completing tasks in an supervised environment.
    • Ability to work with other team members in an organized and professional manner.
