SAIC is seeking an organized and motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer who will work effectively in a fast-paced environment, specifically with submarine launched weapons / UUV systems and related test equipment in Newport, IN. Our team works both remotely and from our offices in Middletown RI and Silverdale WA, ensuring a balance of independent work and in-person collaboration.
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for but not limited to the following:
- Work in a team environment with government and SAIC engineers to design, development, test and implement modern systems for the U.S. Navy.
- Help to understand and drive requirements for production, development testing, and final testing of highly complex mission hardware.
- Support the design of vehicle components, systems, mechanisms, fluid systems, tools, and other types of hardware to mitigate obsolescence, improve performance and manufacturability.
- Utilize hand calculations and tools such as FEA to inform and validate design decisions.
- Support CAD model development and engineering analyses to include FEA, CFD, Thermal, Fatigue, Acoustics, etc.
- Demonstrate ownership of all project phases from initial concept to final commissioning and operation.
- Develops advanced technological ideas and guides their development into a final product.
- Work closely with a team of engineers and technicians to build, assemble, and operate all components, hardware, and test systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical, electrical, and software engineering, to ensure seamless integration of systems and components.
- Support Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and present at Program Management Reviews (PMRs) as a valued team member.
- Act as advisor to management and customers on advanced technical research studies and applications.
Qualifications
Required Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field and fourteen (14) years' experience; additional four (4) years' experience can be considered in lieu of degree.
Required Clearance:
- Must be willing to obtain and maintain an active Secret security clearance; Interim Secret to start; US Citizenship required.
Required Skills:
- Proven experience in the design, development, and integration of systems or related technologies.
- Self-motivated with strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills.
- Knowledge of and experience in selecting materials, manufacturing methods, and surface treatments for mechanical components.
- Experience working effectively across multi-disciplinary teams.
- Desire to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Advanced proficiency with SolidWorks.
- Proficiency in utilizing engineering design and simulation tools and software.
- Position requires U.S. Citizenship and travel up to 25%.
