The program
Australia Awards PNG (AAPNG) supports Papua New Guinea's development by strengthening education, knowledge transfer, and institutional capacity, while building enduring Australia–PNG relationships. The program delivers high-quality education, fosters institution-to-institution partnerships, and develops the next generation of PNG leaders.
The role
In this short-term role, the Library Specialist — Digital Transformation Workshop Facilitator will design and deliver a practical, capacity-building workshop for up to 30 higher-education librarians in Papua New Guinea. The Specialist will work closely with Australia Awards PNG, DFAT/Australian High Commission, and local stakeholders to support sustainable digital transformation of academic libraries.
Key responsibilities
- Design and deliver a hands-on digital transformation workshop for up to 30 librarians.
- Train participants in digitisation, digital cataloguing, and library management systems.
- Teach digital preservation and workflows for rare/culturally significant collections.
- Introduce platforms for e-resources, databases, and improved access to academic materials.
- Prepare practical training materials, exercises, and templates.
- Provide a final workshop report to Australia Awards PNG.
Selection criteria
- Minimum 5 years' experience delivering training or workshops for librarians or academic staff in higher education.
- Skilled in digitisation, digital cataloguing (e.g., MARC21, Dublin Core), electronic resource management, and digital preservation principles.
- Proficient with library management systems and digital repositories (e.g., Koha, DSpace, EBSCO, ProQuest).
- Excellent communication, presentation, and facilitation skills; proven ability to engage adult learners.
- Demonstrated adaptability, innovation, flexibility, and resilience in complex, changing environments.
- Experience working in PNG and collaborating across cultures with higher education institutions and stakeholders.
This role provides short term inputs of approximately 30 days across the period of 30 January 2026 to 30 May 2026.
