Under general direction of the Director of the CalFresh Healthy Living Program, UC, this position will serve as the Manager of the Program unit, manage program priorities, and supervise program unit staff, each with specific areas of expertise. This position will also provide support to the Director on priority programs and funding opportunities. This person will participate in top-level meetings with USDA, CDSS, State Implementing Agencies, ANR and other critical partners. This position will also train new program staff and serve as a back-up for program staff in their specialty areas during absences or vacancies. This position will work closely with the lead analyst for the evaluation unit to ensure progress towards measurable improvement in delivery and quality of CalFresh Healthy Living, UC programming, as well as with our lead analyst for our fiscal/administration unit to manage accountability and stewardship of resources and ensure compliance. Lastly, this person will confirm all programmatic initiatives are in-line with USDA SNAP-Ed guidance.

Physical Demands

-Sit at computer for extended periods of time.

-Lift up to 35 pounds to facilitate file loading and equipment used at trainings, etc.

-Possess and maintain a valid California Driver's License.

-Position will participate in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Pull Notice System.

-A copy of own DMV record will be required as a condition of employment.

-Attend and present at trainings, events, and programs throughout the State of California.

Work Environment

-Subject to DMV Pull Notice System.

-The CalFresh Healthy Living, UC State Office is located off-campus in Davis, CA.

-Provide own transportation for work related travel.

-Travel in and out of the state with occasional overnight stays.

-Work flexible schedule including occasional evenings/nights, weekends, and holidays, usually on short notice to meet operational needs.

-UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. Smoking, the use of smokeless tobacco products, and the use of unregulated nicotine products (e-cigarettes) will be strictly prohibited on any UC Davis owned or leased property, indoors and outdoors, including parking lots and residential space.


Minimum Qualifications

-Bachelor's degree in health education, community development, nutrition, exercise science, public health or related field, or equivalent experience/training.

-Experience in training development and delivery, informed by current research and utilizing a variety of strategies and technologies.

-Experience within the field of health equity and working with community-based organizations, schools, non-profits, low-income, vulnerable populations and under-represented children and families.

-Experience in maintaining effective professional relationships with department managers, as well as external clients.

-Skills to analyze complex problems, research data, gather information, and select an appropriate course of action.

-Analytical skills to research and interpret various sources of data.

-Supervisory skills including writing position statements, conducting interviews, writing performance appraisals, setting work priorities, holding staff accountable for productivity.

-Highly effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills to develop and maintain a positive, professional relationship with individuals from diverse backgrounds and at various organizational levels, and to communicate effectively through written communication, conversation and presentations.

Preferred Qualifications

-Master's in Public Health, Public Administration, Community Development or related field, or equivalent experience/training.

-Ability to exercise personal initiative and demonstrate self-confidence to accept responsibility for decisions, attempt difficult or unfamiliar tasks, develop new sources of information, and present recommendations effectively.

-Grant writing and development ability and experience.

-Knowledge of federal nutrition programs and federal data bases for program implementation and evaluation; experience working on applied evaluation projects for data collection, data management, and analysis.

-Highly effective management skills including strong skills in directing and coaching staff members.

-Skills to utilize video technology and editing for communications, training and evaluation; experience with web training such as Adobe Connect, WebEx, etc.
