Description

The TRIO Scholars Director is responsible for implementing, administering, and evaluating the TRIO Scholars (TRIO Student Support Services) program to facilitate the retention, graduation, and success of first generation and low-income students at the University. The Director ensures the development of quality educational programming for participants by providing support services in a manner consistent with university policies, grant objectives, U. S. Department of Education regulations, and federal legislation governing the grant. In addition, the Director will be responsible for the collection of information and tracking of program services provided to participants for the annual performance report. Furthermore, the Director will assist the Executive Director, Educational and Community Outreach Programs (Principal Investigator) in making decisions regarding allocations of funds for implementation of the program. The Director position is contingent upon funding from a U.S. Department of Education grant. The budgeted salary range for this position is $45,300 - $56,350. This position may travel up to 25% of the time. Education Education Requirements Degree Requirement Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Minimum Requirements Four (4) years of experience designing, managing, and implementing a Student Support Services or similar projects, including extensive experience working with students from various socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds
Skills in active listening, critical thinking, negotiation, problem solving, reasoning, organizing, written and verbal communication, multitasking.
Ability in problem identification and reasoning.
Knowledge of advising and counseling technique and knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences.
Multicultural competencies; ability to work with diverse populations.
Ability to develop original ideas to solve problems.
Excellent public relations/presentation/speaking and writing skills.
Knowledge of financial management principles including budget forecasting, cost analysis, fiscal control, maintaining cost effectiveness and contracting for services in order to develop and implement office budget.
Skills in judgement and decision-making, problem solving, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance.
Interpersonal skills.
Excellent evaluation, policy analysis and program development skills.
Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of University processes and procedures.
