General Summary of Position

Medstar Health is looking for an Echocardiograph Technologist to join our team!

This is a PRN day shift position with a rotating weekend. 

 We are looking for someone with echocardiography practice experience, the ability to recognize emergency medical situations, analytical, mathematical, organizational and problem-solving skills.  

The Echocardiograph Technologist will perform echocardiography studies, Holter scanning and exercise stress tests. Assists in the implementation of protocols and procedures

Primary Duties: 

  • Accurately completes all departmental and MedStar Health billing requirements promptly. Directs reports as requested or required and ensures completeness and accuracy of required patient data prior to billing and interpretation. Maintains statistics as required. Assists in maintaining internal and external cardiology supply inventories. Completes all related procedures prior to performance of the test. Assists with the planning and timely scheduling of all cardiology tests. Clarifies testing request in ambiguous situations. Communicates information about specific test(s) to the patient and family explaining procedure prior to testing. 

  • Consistently performs hookup procedures and scanning analysis procedures for Holter monitors, cardiac event recorders and Zio Patch® units. Demonstrates accurate lead placement and calibration procedures as required by individual equipment. Cleans, disinfects, and maintains cardiology equipment as per department protocol. 

  • Consistently performs stress echo procedures including echo imaging and Doppler. Accurately performs EKG and blood pressure determination during procedure following department protocols. Assists in monitoring patient condition and safety during procedure identifying and documenting cardiac abnormalities related to patient symptoms and/or diagnosis. Consistently performs stress test procedures as per department protocol. Assists in monitoring patient condition and safety during procedure identifying and documenting cardiac abnormalities related to patient symptoms and/or diagnosis.  

  • Consistently performs technically competent EKG tracings with all required patient information displayed. Demonstrates accurate lead placement. Ensures all patient information is entered prior to performance of EKG. Ensures EKG is transmitted into the MUSE system via wireless connection, modem, or disc as appropriate. Completes preparation of EKG tracing for physician review. 

  • Consistently performs transesophageal echocardiographic imaging and cardiac Doppler. Performs transthoracic echocardiographic imaging and cardiac Doppler. Obtains and records optimal gray scale images, optimal color flow, optimal Doppler signals, measurements, and calculations. During test procedures, identifies and documents cardiac abnormalities related to the patient's symptoms and/or diagnosis. 

Qualifications:  

  • High School Diploma or GED. 

  • 6 months of echocardiography practice experience and the performance of at least 100 echocardiogram/ doppler examinations.  

  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or registry-eligible in Cardiovascular Technology from American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS). 

  • Registered Cardiac Sonographer Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS) from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) or Canadian Registered Cardiac Sonographer (CRCS) from Canadian Association of Registered Diagnostic Ultrasound Professionals (CARDUP) within 1 year of hiring. 

  • Basic Life Support (BLS).  

  • Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits- IAC-Echo accreditation standards. 

  • Successful completion of an ultrasound or cardiovascular technology program including verified didactic preferred. 

  • Supervised clinical experience in echocardiography preferred. 

  • Arrhythmia analysis experience preferred.
