SALARY: Teacher Salary Scale (NEGOTIABLE)
Exempt   POSITION SUMMARY
The Speech/Language Pathologist assists in developing speech and language skills to facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of students. The Speech/Language therapist will assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders in school aged students. Continuation of this position is contingent upon funding allocations

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Conduct comprehensive screenings and assessments, obtain diagnostic information, and analyze information to determine eligibility or continued eligibility for speech and language impairments and for speech therapy as a related service.
2. Formulate detailed written evaluations reports to include the student's current functioning levels, in the areas of: speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication and swallowing, determining program eligibility according to the State of Wisconsin, and developing recommendations for treatment.
3. Consults with teachers, parents, and other personnel and/or outside professionals for the purpose of providing requested information, developing plans for services, making recommendations and/or coordinating speech/language therapy services.
4. Develop an Individual Educational Plan (IEPs), including measurable goals and objectives for each student's needs in accordance with the BIE Policies and Procedures.
5. Effectively case manage and or deliver direct and indirect speech therapy to students as indicated in the Individualized Education Plan in their educational setting.
6. Identify and select appropriate materials and equipment specific to the individual students' speech and/or language needs.
7. Establishes and maintain effective and efficient record keeping (attendance, progress, progress reports, therapy notes), procedures according to the BIE Policies and Procedures and processes of the Special Education Department.
8. Establishes and maintains a positive, organized, and safe environment for students.
9. Participates in all pre-referral and referral procedures in compliance with the Policies and Procedures of the BIE which the Special Education Department follows.
10. Participates in training sessions, conferences, and workshops to keep current on practices, programs, and legal issues while maintaining professional certification and/or licensure.
11. Maintains confidentiality of student and other professional information.
12. Ensures that student growth/achievement is continuous and appropriate for age groups and student program classification.
13. Establishes and maintains a positive collaborative relationship with students' families to increase student achievement.
14. Maintain strict departmental security, confidentiality, and quality to meet professional standards of the department.
15. Adhere to all Tribal Personnel Policies and Procedures, Tribal Standard Operating Procedures, and Area and Program Strategic Plans and Policies.
16. The above duties and responsibilities are not an all-inclusive list but rather a general representation of the duties and responsibilities associated with this position. The duties and responsibilities will be subject to change based on organizational needs and/or deemed necessary by the supervisor.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
1. Frequently walk, stand, reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear. Occasionally is required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, life and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds.
2. Work is generally performed in a classroom setting with a moderate noise level.
3. A Tuberculosis (TB) Screening and/or 2 step TB Skin Test is required within thirty (30) days of employment and annually thereafter as required.

7. Ability to work effectively with individuals and demonstrate leadership and team building skills with empathy and enthusiasm.
8. Ability to work as a team player collectively with staff, students, parents, and outside service providers.
9. Understand and meet all relevant ethical, professional, and legal standards to ensure high quality services and protect the rights of all parties.
10. Adhere to the BIE Special Education Policies and Procedures.
11. Oneida Certification on reporting Child Abuse and Neglect within 90 days of employment.
12. Must be willing and able to obtain additional education and training.
13. Must pass a pre-employment drug screening. Must adhere to the Nation's Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Policy during the course of employment.
14. Must pass a background security check with the Oneida Nation in order to meet the Employment Eligibility Requirements, Tribal/State Compact and/or Oneida Nation Gaming Ordinance as they pertain to the position. A temporary license or Gaming License issued by the Oneida Gaming Commission is required as a condition of employment and continuing employment within the Oneida Nation's Gaming Division.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants please clearly state on the application/resume if you meet these qualifications.
1. Experience working with Native American students.
2. One year of previous successful experience providing speech therapy services.
3. Must have or be able to obtain a Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction Speech/Language Pathology Certification within one year of employment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Valid Wisconsin Speech/Language Pathologist License, # 1820
2. A Master's degree in Speech Pathology from an accredited college or university.
3. Certificate of Clinical Competence.
