Position Summary  

The Life Science program seeks a dedicated and motivated individual to teach Human Anatomy and Physiology. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to student success through teaching and learning excellence. The selected candidate will perform duties and functions with the support of the program chair of Life Sciences and will be directly responsible to the Science Division Dean.

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule  

Adjunct Professor is typically assigned as needed on a quarterly basis, with no expectation of continued employment beyond the current appointment.

Quarterly remuneration for 5-credit lecture class is $5,716.52 - $6,968.62. Compensation is prorated based on type and duration of assignments. Individuals newly hired to Adjunct Professor group at the college are placed at the minimum rate per union bargaining agreement. Certain positions may also be eligible for assignment/project-based additional compensation, including a High Demand Stipend up to $8,350 annually, prorated based on the discipline and duration of the assignment. All additional compensations are subject to change depending on funding and negotiated agreement.

Generous benefits package for eligible employees is offered through Washington State plans that includes multiple medical, dental, life and disability coverage choices for employees and dependents; choices of retirement and deferred compensation plans; paid personal leave plan; transit program, reduced tuition, employee discounts and memberships, etc. Eligible employees are faculty who work a combined load of at least 50% at Bellevue College and other Washington State public institutions of higher education for two consecutive quarters are eligible for health and dental insurance at the start of the second consecutive quarter. 

In addition to teaching, faculty maintains office hours and may participate in department and college activities. This position is represented by the Bellevue College Association of Higher Education (BCAHE) union.

About the Department  

The Life Science Program teaches a range of courses encompassing biology, nutrition and botany.

Essential Functions  

As teaching assignments, the individual is responsible for Human Anatomy and Physiology courses in, on-campus, hybrid, and online learning environments. Courses may be offered weekdays, either daytime or evening.

Responsibilities include:

  • Directing student learning in assigned courses. Establishing and assessing student learning outcomes.
  • Maintaining knowledge of effective teaching methodologies, instructional delivery methods, classroom media, and educational resources.
  • Work effectively with students from academically, culturally, and economically diverse backgrounds.
  • Assessing and evaluating student learning, using a range of measurement activities and providing students precise, timely, constructive, feedback regarding their learning, performance, and professional preparation.
  • Maintaining current knowledge and skills in areas of assignment.
  • Engaging in professional development activities.
  • Building collaborative relationships within the Bellevue College community.
  • Fostering a positive, caring learning environment in which diversity and pluralism are valued.
Minimum Qualifications  
  • Master's degree in biology or closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Experience teaching 200 level or higher Human Anatomy and Physiology courses.
  • Ability to design in-person and online learning experiences that are interactive.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to connect and build relationships with students and colleagues from varied ethnicities, ages, backgrounds, learning styles, and abilities.
Preferred Qualifications  
  • Experience in college level instruction or adult learners.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively teach in traditional, hybrid and fully online environments.
  • Demonstrated experience working collegially with diverse colleagues in a collaborative and inclusive manner.
  • Awareness of teaching and learning theory, and an openness to educational innovation.
