Departmental Overview

UC Berkeley Extension is the continuing education branch of the University of California, Berkeley. Extension offers more than 2,000 courses per year in a variety of subjects both online and in the classroom. Extension's administrative departments and units include student records (transcripts), registration, scheduling, international student services, facilities, financial services, and the cashier's office. In addition to the main Berkeley center, it has responsibility for the maintenance and operation of regional centers in San Francisco (Spear Street), and Belmont and other leased facilities in the San Francisco Bay Area.
 


Responsibilities
  • Manages the continuous improvement of customized programs.
  • Establishes evaluation criteria for measuring desired results and impact.
  • Analyzes evaluation data and reports results to Director.
  • Uses considerable discretion to determine methods and procedures for current and new course offering and topics.
  • Develops processes to report on course and program performance to create reports to Director for continuous improvement of course structure, including articulation of lectures, projects, company visits and events.
  • Manages ongoing partnership relations for recurring programs.
  • In collaboration with established partners, plans and develops programs and curriculum of recurring custom programs and adjusts existing courses and curriculum in an accredited and / or certified public education environment.
  • Under the guidance of Director, evaluates prospective program partnerships to assess the operational feasibility of the requested customized programs, as well as the potential for a long-term engagement.
  • Recruits, selects, orients, evaluates and supervises qualified accredited and / or certificate instructors.
  • Manages the academic implementation of advanced and complex program designs.
  • Leads subject matter experts, instructors and speakers in the execution of the course or program.
  • Develops, prepares and reconciles budget for program(s).
  • Manages creation and reporting of budgets across large portfolio of programs and courses.
  • Provides recommendations to Director for budget optimization.
  • Evaluates and adjusts course curriculum through student evaluations and levels of interest shown.
  • Develops and manages processes to continuously improve the learning experience and student success.

Required Qualifications
  • Advanced analytical, problem solving, interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrates thorough knowledge of or has the ability to quickly learn the organization's policies and procedures; advanced knowledge of functional area and understands how work impacts other areas of public educational programs.
  • Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
  • Thorough knowledge of concepts, principles, and procedures of building and maintaining effective relations with internal and external, national and international constituencies.
  • Advanced intercultural communication skills to effectively manage relations with staff, agents and representatives of institutional or corporate partners.

Education/Training:

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Skill in using business software systems in the completion of work assignments (i.e., Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
  • Advanced knowledge of accredited and / or certificate program instruction and delivery methodologies, the organization, market and business strategies.
  • Master's degree or higher in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Continuing education in related field.

Salary & Benefits

This is an exempt, monthly paid position.  Annual salary is commensurate with experience.

This is a one-year, full-time, 40-hours per week, renewable contract position.
